From:Steve Kolodny - sgkolodny@aol.com Steve Kolodny writes: No one has made an entry to the guestbook in about 6 weeks so I am just testing the system. FYI - AOL alerted me today that they will no longer deliver e-mail addressed to more than 15 recipients. I guess this ends the 'bulk mail' style of sending e-mails to all of you with birthday alerts and the like. Oh well. It's been fun to now. ---Steve

From:Fred Jaffe - JaffeFregorjaf@aol.com Fred Jaffe writes: On Thursday, May 26, Harold Richland and I were reunited for the first time in around 20 - 25 years, out in Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island, one of the many places, conincidentally (although we didn't plan to meet there for that reason) where we used to spend time in the mid 1970s, originating from the fact that we used to visit Steve Salamon at Stonybrook University. Unfortunately, Wayne couldn't make it, but Harold's brother Bruce was there. Steve should be posting the photos here on the website shortly. We had a great time listening to Harold's new CD. We were both guitarist when we used to hang together way back when. Harold really improved, and the CD is great. It was great to see him again after all these years.

From:Karen Chernick Spivack - kctetris@aol.com Karen Chernick Spivack writes: It was so great to look at the group pictures and see myself. I think I became a real athlete those years (only there for two, though). Learned to play Newcomb and I was pretty good at it. I remember hating the lake, and almost drowning in the pool. I remember Shari and I were Tuddie and Muldoon for some camp show. Fun times, great memories. Married now for 28 years; our son finishing college and our daughter (finishing law school) will be getting married in May -- will there be day a camp for her kids?

I am in the bottom row of the 1972 staff picture. I had lived in Highland Mills at the time on Bakertown Rd across from Artie at Kadima Park and down the street from Sunny Croft. My Uncles owned Highland Park which was up the street from camp. Now I live two towns up in a place called Sugar Loaf, NY. My cousins are Hal and Lloyd and Norma Sokoloff. From:Fred Jaffe - JaffeFregorjaf@aol.com Fred Jaffe writes: I just noticed that the kid in the 1969 Senior Boys photo, second from the right, between Wayne and Harold, is listed as Wally Goetz, but it's not. I forgot that guy's name--he was only there one summer, I think--but it's definitely not Wally, because Wally was never in my group. He was my C.I.T. in 1971 when Paul Krames was counselor of the T.A. boys, and the whole time I was a camper or C.C, he was always either in an older group, or staff.

From:Fred Jaffe - jaffefregorjaf@aol.com Fred Jaffe writes: I sent E-mails of this update of my new life here in Summit County, Colorado, but for those for whom I don't have addresses for: It's beautiful here, but very dry, and it's allergy season, and it's killing me. (I think it may also partly be the girl I'm living with's cat, making it even worse, but there are lots of advantages for me to stay living here, so I'll stick it out and see how it goes.) The other problem was the altitude, but I think I solved that problem yesterday by taking one of the longer, more strenuous, and higher hikes in the area, peaking at around 13,000 feet, with a gain of 3,000 feet. It was quite a workout. The last part is a boulder field, which I thought you had to kind of scramble across, but when I got there I found you have to climb it. Then, just when you think you're done, you find you have to climb another one, and still have to hike uphill to reach the summit! It was four hours up, two hours down, and I started later than I should have, so for a while I thought I was going to get stuck in the woods at the bottom section when night fell. Luckily it took a lot less time to get down, so I made it out of the woods just before dusk. That was a little hairy, and hard, but fun. I'll be doing other hikes, and hopefully some mountain biking on my one day off--Friday--while working the other four weekdays at the 7-11 in Breckenridge, and the Subway where I live, in Frisco, on the weekends. I should be switched to the nearby Frisco 7-11 in a few weeks when the owner of it takes over the Breckenridge one and franchises it. The girl I'm renting from knows him well and put in a good word for me to get switched, and it makes sense for him to switch me anyway, living a few minutes walk away. It's a 25 minute bus ride to Breckenridge. I'm saving up to hopefully go to Thailand in the fall (although I'm not sure about that, because if my jobs are working out well, I might keep one or both, and wouldn't be able to take time off), and for the ski season.

From:Ira Hofher - romimoo@aol.com Ira Hofher writes: Hello to everyone....It has been awhile since I have made any comments here, but when I visited the Guestbook today I saw an entry from a woman named Susan Janowitz, dated Oct. 28th, in which she spoke of visiting our site, and also that she was a former camper from Tel Aviv and Lebanon (see, above). I sent her an email asking her about someone I remembered from Tel Aviv and this was her response: hi ira, thanks for writing., actually i remember K K very well.,.her younger brother was J..i will be turning 50..but i also have 2 older sisters. in matter of fact chatting on the Highland mills site (which you can feel free to join) the girls spoke about the newcomb games.. shoshana girls were known as the "shoshana amazons" for nobody could defeat them.. on checking your site. i got reconnected with debbie oberlander.,. though i think she went to shoshana after you left..like you said they are really great memories..somebody even just put up a 1968 staff photo of lebanon.,, you might recognize some of them keep the memories coming........... Now I knew we were pretty good at newcomb, but the Shoshana Amazons?? Harry would have loved the winning scores, but he would have been sure to counsel the girls on their technique! I hope this finds everyone in good health (Freddie: Be Careful in the mountains and in Thailand, you're not a "Senior II" anymore) and I send my fondest regards to Sue.
From:Ben Zion (Benzy) kogen - famkogen@aol.com Ben Zion (Benzy) kogen writes: I can't believe that I'm actually writing to a guestbook page for Camp Shoshana. It's been such a long time since I even attended. Summers of 1963 and 1964 were my times -- along with my brother Noam Kogen. So, how did I find this page? Through a "goodsearch" on my name! Technology is amazing. For two summers, I got on the bus at Garland Trail in the Glenwood HIlls subdivision of Mountain Lodge Park ... we went down one hill, and up another into Highland Mills and through the gates of Camp Shoshana. ... and what great days they were! I remember Ira Hofher, Norman Bodenstein, Howie Mandel, Sue Lieberman, Big Irv (who made me overcome my fear of swimming by heaving me into the pool), and of course Harry and Sue. I'm living in the Los Angeles area and serving as a Federation Executive Director. Married with three great kids -- ages 25-18. The oldest is married (who believes that I have a married child). Not much more to report. Where is everyone else? Benzy Kogen famkogen@aol.com
From:Shari Pachman - shari629@aol.com Shari Pachman writes: I am so happy to have just discovered this website. I loved Camp Shoshana. Sue and Harry always made me and every camper feel important. Harry always teased me and called me Parry Schackman instead of Shari Pachman and I thought that was the funniest thing! It was a place where you felt comfortable, and happy. Somehow Sue and Harry knew the right things to do before all the books came out telling educators exactly what the "correct things to do are."
From:ira hofher - romimoo@aol.com ira hofher writes: Well, it is 2008-some 46 years (believe it or not) since I first came to Shoshana. It was real special to hear from Benzy. So you are out on the left coast, huh? Well, I never made it west of the George Washington Bridge. And Shari...I remember you as a cute little girl. I went to a wedding luncheon a few weeks ago and one of the guests was Dr. Gary Inwald (he was in my group in the Seniors and TA's). I am sure that some of you must remember his brothers Clark and Scott, if not Gary himself. Wishing everyone, especially Sue, Ellen and Andrew, a healthy and happy New Year.
