Click Here to Hear Bim Bom: Welcome to The Camp Shoshana songbook. Caryn Heyman deserves a lot of the credit for this page. She sent me an e-mail to me that shared the idea of putting up a songbook and she did me a huge favor by also including the lyrics! Stace Frank, Jeff Sternstein, Mindy Hecht Kole, Susan Kalish Snyder, Ellen (Rachlin) Stockwell and Wendy Greenwald-Halperin have also been kind enough to tap out their favorite camp songs. And Stacey Halio added so many songs I had to give her her own page! Send all e-mail relating to your favorite camp song(s) to CampShoshana@aol.com. And please limit your submissions to those songs that are special to Camp Shoshana --Steve Bim Bom/Shabbat Shalom - to the tune of... aw c'mon, you know! Bim Bom Bim Bim Bim Bom Bim Bim Bim Bim Bim Bim Bom Bim Bom Bim Bim Bim Bom Bim Bim Bim Bim Bim Bim Bom Shabbat Shalom Hey Shabbat Shalom Hey Shabbat, Shabbat, Shabbat Shabbat Shalom 100 Bottles Of Beer - Certainly A Camp Favorite - and what camp songbook would be complete without it? Thank you Susan Kalish Snyder for adding it to our list. Susan says: Here is a song we sang on every bus ride. I'm quite surprised that no one mentioned the song. This was one of the favorites. Often we would sing that song the entire bus ride. Never got tired of that song. Well anyway, here it is - l00 bottles of beer on the wall l00 bottles of beer If one of the bottles of beer should happen to fall (alt - "You take one down and pass it around") 99 bottles of beer on the wall etc., etc., and so forth... Puff the Jewish Dragon - to the tune of "Puff The Magic Dragon". Puff the Jewish Dragon lived in Palestine He frolicked in the chicken soup, and drank Shapiro's wine Little Rabbi Goldberg loved that rascal Puff He gave him lots of matzoh balls and other Kosher stuff One day they went fishing to catch gefilte fish It's Puff the Jewish Dragon's favorite kosher dish But one fine day it happened the Rabbi came no more and Puff the Jewish Dragon had to buy it in the store! I'm gonna teach you a new word today - to the tune of "I'm gonna teach you a new word today" (LOL) I'm gonna teach you a new word today And so repeat after me and say In English the word is PEACE (chorus) In English the word is PEACE Ah Haaaaaaaaa I'm gonna teach you a new word today And so repeat after me and say In English the word is PEACE (chorus) In English the word is PEACE In Hebrew the word is SHALOM (chorus) In Hebrew the word is SHALOM Ah Haaaaaaa Peace, Shalom, Salaam, Mir, Paz, Hayiwa! Color War Alma Mater - lyrics by Celeste - to the tune of The Beatle's "I Will" (Caryn's Liner Note) Maybe '76,77 or 78...not sure if blue or white team..and I can't remember all the words..but this is a good start We know that Camp has ended and we will go our ways but we'll remember Camp Shoshana on those cold, winter days na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na and we will remember throughout December that Camp is not far away We've made so many friendships That last a whole life through We'll remember Camp Shoshana And our hearts will stay with you This from Stace Frank: I remember part of an Alma Mater that (don't laugh) either Karen Storper and I wrote or Joy Marcus and Diane Margolin wrote (I really can't remember, sorry). I believe it was Coke vs. Pepsi and I can't remember the colors. It was to the theme from Mash and the first stanza was: "The lake, the pool, the baseball field, where all of winters wounds are healed. Strange places to find love and care, but at Shoshana they're all there. (Chorus) Our Shoshana days are happy (treasured?) and in our hearts remembered. Our dreams will be of you all winter through." This from Wendy Greenwald Halperin: the alma mater continues: "the cries of nab and nerd we hear remind us of the passing year a year for which our thanks are due we owe it all to harry and sue" These from Jeff Sternstein: Hey folks, I wanted to add some Shoshana song memories, including two from the "Hand Motion" series...... Swimming, swimming in the swimming pool When days are hot When days are cold In the swimming pool Breast stroke, side stroke fancy diving, too Oh wouldn't it be nice if there were nothing else to do BUT (Then, hum the same melody, with just the hand motions) ------------------------------------------ Da-vid melach y'israel Chai, chai vi chai um (with obligatory hand motions) ------------------------------------------ Then, of course, were the camp bus favorites........ "The littlest worm I ever saw...was sipping cider through a straw" (Words anyone?) Yes Jeff - we have the words, thanks to Ellen (Rachlin) Stockwell See Below ------------------------------------------ Found a peanut, found a peanut, found a peanut last night Last night I found a peanut found a peanut last night Repeat with --- it was rotten, it was rotten...... Repeat with --- ate it anyway, ate it anyway..... Repeat with --- ? -------------------------------------------- I know it's not officially a Shoshana song, but there are also strong associations with Edwin playing "The Entertainer" on the camphouse piano and songs of the day like "Sealed with a Kiss" to Shoshana memories. This group recollection and reflection has been great. Thanks to Ira and Steve for keeping it going and for all who have helped build it. Shoshana deserves a shrine that lives and breathes. Sue -- I see this foremost as a tribute to you and your wonderful spirit. It's great to see new familiar faces have joined the site. That's all for now. -Jeff This one from Mindy Hecht Kole: How about this one, you OLD TIMERS: "We welcome you to Camp Shoshana, we're mighty glad you're here, we'll set the air reverberating with a mighty cheer. we'll sing you in, we'll sing you out til you will give a mighty shout, hail, hail the gang's all here, and we welcome you to Camp Sho-sha-na!" These from Ellen (Rachlin) Stockwell: The Littlest Worm to the tune of The Hoffman Soda Song (circa 1963) The Littlest Worm the littlest worm (repeat) I ever saw (repeat) was stuck inside (repeat) my soda straw (repeat) the littlest worm I ever saw was stuck inside my soda straw he said to me (repeat) don't take a sip (repeat) for if you do (repeat) you'll surely flip (repeat) he said to me don't take a sip for if you do you'll surely flip I took a sip (repeat) and he went down (repeat) all through my pipes (repeat) he must have drowned (repeat) I took a sip and he went down all through my pipes he must have drowned the moral of (repeat) this little tale (repeat) if you see a worm (repeat) just don't inhale (repeat) The moral of this little tale if you see a worm just don't inhale. To Jeff Sternstein: these words are for you! Love, Ellen Hava Nagilah Hava nagilah, hava hagilah, hava hagilah, vah nismeh chah Hava narananah, have narananah, hava narananah, vah nismeh chah oooo rooo, oooo roooo achim oo rachim bilev samaoch oo rachim bilev samaoch oo rachim, oo rachim bilev samaoch --As I wrote these words, I can see my dad singing them in the camphouse, while we are all sitting on the blue or yellow painted benches. These come from Renee Shavell Here's one from riding the bus: Hooray the bus driver, Hooray the bus driver, Someone on the bus is yelling "Hooray the bus driver", Two Four Six Eight Who do we appreciate? The bus driver, that's whoooo (goes into another "hooray" and starts over again). I can sing this one but can't refer the tune to any other song I know so you'll have to know it or not. We sang it with a German accent for some reason. My hands on myself, Vat have I here (hands on stomach) Das is my bread basket my momma dear. Bread basket, bread basket, dippy dippy dippy damp. Dat's vat we learn in this camp. My hands on myself, Vat have I here (hands on heart) Das is my heart thumper my momma dear. Heart thumper, bread basket, dippy dippy dippy damp. (point to each as you say them) Dat's vat we learn in this camp. My hands on myself, Vat have I here (hands on throat) Das is my voice maker my momma dear. Voice maker, heart thumper, bread basket, dippy dippy dippy damp. (point to each as you say them) Dat's vat we learn in this camp. My hands on myself, Vat have I here (hands on mouth) Das is my meal pusher my momma dear. Meal pusher, voice maker, heart thumper, bread basket, dippy dippy dippy damp. (point to each as you say them) Dat's vat we learn in this camp. My hands on myself, Vat have I here (hands on eyes) Das is my eye blinker my momma dear. Eye blinker, meal pusher, voice maker, heart thumper, bread basket, dippy dippy dippy damp. (point to each as you say them) Dat's vat we learn in this camp. My hands on myself, Vat have I here (hands on top of head) Das is my brain thinker my momma dear. Brain thinker, eye blinker, meal pusher, voice maker, heart thumper, bread basket, dippy dippy dippy damp. (point to each as you say them) Dat's vat we learn in this camp. And the third song, well, the teen girls kinda sang it. Again, I can't hum it for you in e-mail but maybe someone will know where the tune came from: The boys we met this summer Are really so much dumber Than the ones here the year before. They think they are better But they're really so much wetter And this ain't what what we came here for. Give us men! Give us men! 'Cause we can't take a year of this again. 4 more lines I can't remember but I would love to. Renee Shavel If you can read this, your browser does not support the audio element.
